Baroque Tahitian Pearls

Baroque Tahitian pearls can look striking with casual to dressy outfits. The irregular design or baroque shape of the pearls, in luminescent hues, beguile and ignite extra interest. Worn as a necklace, graduated from 10 to 11 mm and finished with polished 14k or 18k white gold clasp, the pearl stands out in its beauty. A simple black dress or chic blouse-and-skirt ensemble accessorized with a baroque Tahitian pearl necklace in a quality leather cord can look fabulous. Baroque Tahitian pearls originating from French Polynesia are very versatile and can be worn for weekend socials, parties, or even corporate meetings.

In Polynesian culture, pearls signify purity and power. Given as a gift, black Tahitian pearls convey everlasting love. In some cultures, the Tahitian black pearl also symbolizes hope in a person’s wounded heart. In the Orient, the black pearl connotes wisdom and truth. The brilliant luster and shimmering overtones of the pearls (which may range from gray to black, to solver, green, blue and purplish shades) that cast an enigmatic spell on women have made them must-have accessories.

The beautiful, deep shine of a pearl is what makes it so appealing to many women all over the world. Various layers of semi-opaque calcium carbonate crystals, called nacre, are responsible for this shine. The nacre reflects light on the pearl’s surface, creating luster. The larger the pearls are, the thicker the nacre. Multicolor Tahitian baroque pearls that may measure from 8mm on the back portion and graduate to a magnificent 10mm centerpiece are a lovely find.

Baroque Tahitian pearls have been worn by royalty and noble people. The value of exotic Tahitian pearls coming from the black-lipped bivalve mollusk Pinctada Margaritifera is assessed based on luster, surface cleanliness, nacre thickness, size, color, and shape. Aside from baroque or semi-baroque shapes, Tahitian pearls may come in ringed, semi-round, oval or pear shapes. Baroque Tahitian pearls can look exquisite fashioned as a single strand or multi-strand necklace, or as a pendant necklace crafted with sterling silver.
