For centuries, Polynesians use their skills to explain their culture, among them, arts like tattooing, wood carving, tapa cloth, and pictorial arts. These drawing motifs have meanings like waves, mountains, the sea, turtles, dolphins, etc.

Black Tahitan pearl surfaces with high-quality luster are nice to wear, but some pearls have lesser surface quality but still remain as a pearl and not considered as a reject. Used on necklaces as strands for women, these black pearls can be extremely desirable when carved.

Most carved Tahitian pearls are carved by hand artists in French Polynesia. You get the genuine Polynesian design carved about 1mm in depth on the pearl surface, giving a special texture feeling when you touch it. Because it’s not laser-carved, each design is unique. The size of the pearls is approximatively 12mm in diameter, and pearl colors are available in all natural hues.

The new trend with carved Tahitian pearls are men’s necklaces. The leather or rubber cord passes through the center hole of the carved pearl and makes a simple but masculine necklace.

If you love Tahitan pearls, don’t miss having them in your collection. It’s more an art than a plain, organic gem.
