Since the beginning of 2010, ”Mahana Pae” (Friday in Tahitian) offer entertainment for tourists and people. Every first Friday of the month a theme is chosen and included in the events calendar of the city of Papeete.

Friday, September 9, 2011: a special edition on “TE POE” the Tahitian pearl.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Tahitian Pearl, and in partnership with the Maison de la Perle, the Mahana Pae September has been suggested and is dedicated to this jewel of the seas.

As part of its promotional missions in French Polynesia and the celebration of 50 years of the Tahitian pearl, the Maison de la Perle wished to partner with an Mahana Pae dedicated to the history of the Tahitian pearl. The Mahana Pae aims to educate the public and tourists for 50 years of the Tahitian pearl via an event organized by local officials of the partners.

The House of the Pearl (Maison de la perle) offers a number of educational activities around the Tahitian Pearl, Pearl such as classification and expertise, the assembly of beads jewelry necklaces, pearl drilling and engraving of nacre. Thus, visitors to the Parc Bougainville will have the option of 9:00 to 4:00 p.m., to drill beads, jewelry mount or engrave mother of pearl shells (nacre) in the presence of professionals. Every hour, they will be asked questions about the history of the Tahitian Pearl and gifts will be offered to visitors who have had a good answer.

By evening Vaiete, Maison de la Perle turned to a speaker specialist in the history of the Tahitian Pearl, Patrick Seurot to present the major theme of this Mahana Pae. This conference will be hosted by a slideshow of exclusive photos of the beginning of the graft of Tahitian pearls. Finally, the Maison de la Perle wished to offer a fashion show provided by famous designer Alberto V, tracing the history of the princess of the ocean.
